Islamic Development Bank Embarks on Gender-Sensitive Approach to Food Security

We designed a Trust Fund with a gender-sensitive approach to the use of grants to promote food security for women and youth.

Gender equality and poverty reduction go hand in hand. The Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) certainly understands this. As the poverty reduction arm of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), ISFD engaged Momentus (formerly IFCL) to design and implement a gender-sensitive trust fund.

The result of our work was the Hasanah Charity Fund, a joint trust fund between ISFD and the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists (WCMP). It is the first trust fund established and managed by ISFD, and its operations are centered on a gender-sensitive approach in the use of grants to promote food security particularly for women and youth.

We developed the fund’s handbook to guide the later design and launch of the trust fund, and aligned the new fund design with international best practices.
